Hmm... I need to change the oil in my car, and perhaps do a tire rotation. Any suggestions in the Twin Cities (preferably S. Mpls) as to where to go?

When I bought the Emerald Starship in 1999, a Mazda Protege, I got a Service Package. I have just over 40,000 miles on the car. Until now, I've always had the work done at the dealer, but that's waaaaay off in the wilds of Burnsville and it would be a gallon of gas just to drive there and back. It's nice that they throw in a car wash, but for routine maintenance I would like more local Car Guys

Suggestions?

Not what you're really asking for, but if you ever have a serious car repair that needs to be done, Erin and I have had nothing but great service from St. Paul Automotive which is located on Randolph Ave. just off I-35E in St. Paul. A co-worker of mine had her Toyota's engine repaired there 18 months ago, and was very satisfied as well. Locally owned and operated too, if that sort of thing matters to you.

I get all of my car stuff done at Precision Tune in Bloomington on 98th and Nicollet. They are quick, attentive, honest, and reasonably priced.

Is there another Mazda dealer closer to you?

Not with full facilities to do oil changes and such, at least not last time I looked. (The place I bought the car from closed and their accounts/facilities went to Burnsville.) Talking it over with some car friends, they had no specific suggestions for a mere oil change (except to ignore the "advice" to fix anything else) but warned "never get your oil changed at the dealer". Somewhere around here I have a coupon so the price is competitive, but really it would be easier to use someone just a few blocks away. Bound to be one, I hope.

I should pay attention to the coupons in the paper and on junk mail. I'm still a car tyro.

I tend to just hit Precision Tune. In fact, I'll be doing that after work, today... :)

I usually do it myself, but when I'm feelig lazy or not prone to getting dirty I go here

He's cheap, and you get it changed my a mechanic , not some teenaged kid who will knock a vacuum line off and not notice, or try to sell you an air cleaner you don't need.

I've been to too many of those "Quick Oil" places, and I've had them try to sell me service for parts my car does not have. One wanted to sell me an oil change of the front transfer case of my truck, the truck at the time was 2wd and it didn't even HAVE one!

Try the corner of Lake & Portland. Alternatively, [livejournal.com profile] iraunink and I have been happy with Hawkins (47th? & Nicollet), the last place we got an oil change was the new Mobil station just north of the Cub at 60th & Nicollet.

Amigo Service on the NW corner of 36th and Lyndale has treated me well for years. I highly recommend them.

I guess I'm the 3rd to nominate Amigos. Good people and service.
