The War On Wednesday

A letter to the editor the Strib probably won't print.

As I was getting my morning cup of coffee, the clerk said, "Happy Holidays!" in a cheerful and bright manner than made me smile. Immediately, the grinch next to me ruined the mood. "Why is there such a war on Christmas? Why can't people use the correct name for the day?" And with a humph, he turned to leave , waving us off, "Have a nice day."

But... but... but... it was Wednesday! A day that is named after the Anglo-Saxon god Woden, the equivalent of the Scandinavian Odin. Jesus was a nice guy who would take pleasure in anyone spreading happiness, but Odin was a vengeful god. The War on Wednesday is a serious attack on European culture and we should protest loudly.

Good Wednesday, ladies and gentlemen.

I find it hard to believe that Jesus, the man who advised us to turn the other cheek, would approve of anyone going around in his name denying the value of holidays that include Hannukah, which must have been part of the traditions in which he himself was raised.

Sure, by all means! Thanks for the welcome back. I'm now hacking through all the pictures I and my mother took, throwing away the bad or redundant ones. I'm about a third of the way through and have kept over 700 pics. Very few penguins... so far.

Wow - that is a massive amount of pictures! Then again, I read an article with a travel photographer once who said the most important thing to keep in mind when photographing a trip is "Film is cheap, travel is expensive." I imagine this is even more true when comparing digital pictures to a trip to Antarctica.
