Boondocks: Best science fiction episode ever!

Forgive the hyperbole, but The Boondocks keeps getting better and better. Perhaps its not for everyone. Certainly, it WILL offend many people. Still...

Tonight's episode was in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I hope it becomes a tradition. In this fantasy, Dr. King wasn't killed in 1968, but went into a coma, and woke up in 2000. He meets Huey (who throws chairs) and Riley (who wants to start a Black Revolutionary political party) and grandfather Freeman (who was sitting next to Rosa Parks during her famous bus ride and didn't give up his seat either, and is still resentful that she got all the press). Dr. King is reviled for preaching non-violence after 9/11 and can't stand up to the rudeness of the conservative media. He sees the state of African-Americans today, a world he helped make, and doesn't fit in.

The episode didn't make me laugh, though I was on the verge throughout. But as the show ended, I had a tear in my eye. I still haven't decided in what proportion Aaron McGruder is brilliant, brave, pissed off, tapping into gansta rap subculture or precisely how the combination works, but I'm glad he's around.
