Take it away!

[livejournal.com profile] aliversonmpls is on his way to Chicago to be with Kate. I scored a box of CDs: 151, if I counted right. I took the closest box of the two without checking to see what was in what, and a first pass nets 97 that look good (and I'll probably check out the other 54). That increases my collection by more than 10%. With the booty comes two CD racks, which I could use... if I could find a place to put them.

So it's time to reorganize my condo. First step, get rid of lots of stuff. I have hundreds of floppies, 800K and the 1.4M kind. Plus flip-top cases for them. Most are used, though I have at least six unopened boxes. Yours for the asking. If no one claims them, I'll toss the used floppies, give the cases and unopened boxes to the Salvation Army.

Also for free: Commodore-64 stuff. I don't know why I kept it. A few games and such. Maybe even some C-64 floppies. Gone, gone gone if no one wants them.

I have a staggering amount of computer books about HTML and web design from when I was teaching at Brown, all top-of-the-genre with CDs, from at least 7 years ago. Also some other computer books; I don't know how much C++ has changed, but I've never looked at them. Write for a list, and any unused ones get tossed. I may keep the Mac Secrets books, at least one of them... but maybe not.

Lots of software and disks for OS 7, 8 and 9. Perfectly legal. Anything I've upgraded from I'll keep, but anything else is up for grabs, including Office 2001 (Mac) Teacher's edition and Symantec Utilities etc. Not sure what I'll do with the software, but at best they go deeper into a closet.

I have at least two ZIP drives, 100M, SCSI plus a lot of disks. $10 for the drives and I'll throw in some random amount of ZIP disks that probably have something on them.

A big item: my old television. 21" (I think), fine working order last time I tried. Comes with remote and maybe instruction booklet. Also: Cabinet with swivel top. Holds tapes or other stuff. Make me an offer. You'll have to pick it up.

I offer to pick it up, if, for some strange reason you can't get someone to throw large sums of money your way

When I picked it up I would bring you a sammich :)

just sayin

[identity profile] barondave.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Could you be more specific?

I guess thats fair

[identity profile] mplspunky.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I will haul that sweet sweet tv away (although I'm sure it wont come up, cause hopefully someone will be able to throw you piles of money) and in exchange I shall bring you a delicious sandwich from your favorite local sub shop and I'll even make it a combo!

hehe

good luck rearranging your belongings and congratulations on your cd score!

[profile] magscanner has been having pretty good luck selling CDs on Amazon. It all depends on the CDs, of course. I mention this in case the box included some you didn't care about.

Congrats on clearing out house! Are there any e-waste recyclers in Mpls? I talked to one recently who would take floppies and videotapes but you had to have some computer stuff, like a printer or monitor, for them to take as well.

No one's claimed it yet, so at the moment you're the winner... depending on what kind of sandwich. We'll negotiate.

But it does come with a caveat: You also have to take the swivel cabinet. It's perfect on which to put said tv, and holds tapes and stuff. I've never moved it more than a couple of feet: It came as a kit from KMart, and I built it right here. I bugged KMart for weeks, since they had a display model but none for sale.

Call me (same #as in the MN-STF directory... or even the phone book...) or e-mail, and we'll arrange a transfer tomorrow or soon.

I might be interested in the zip drives.

I gotta talk to my gf first.

I'll let ya know.

I'll take the C64 stuff! How does I get it?

When will you be in town? Marscon... hmmm... I'll ship it to you, as cheap as I can, for postage... or your next CD...

The Seven Cities of Gold (in the original packaging)

Dust A Tale of the Wired West (unopened! And the press kit)

A printer ribbon, used. Don't know how much is left.

A bunch of disks in a sleeve, including Castle Wolfenstein, Modem Master, Reach for the Stars (my favorite game for the C-64 and early Mac), Music Construction Set. Disks labeled Rune (the MN-STF clubzine), and various backup disks (you may be able to embarrass [livejournal.com profile] laurel if they have BBS saves), which you can probably erase.

And hey, the manual for the double-cassette deck that made hundreds of Shockwave Distribution Tapes that doesn't work well enough to make dupes and I'll probably throw away at last... but you can't have that...

I may find other stuff as I'm rooting around, but for the moment that looks like it.

[identity profile] barondave.livejournal.com 2006-07-18 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, but I'll probably just take 'em to Cheapo down the block. Heck, I may just donate any I don't want to the KFAI music sale. We'll see. Most of the CDs were bought used (claims Al) and the cases aren't in particularly good condition. I may listen to a track or two before I go so far as give up on one, but chances that I'll keep a CD go way down if it has Simplified Spelling (Luv 2 U) or the word "funk" features prominently.

Al like(d) the B-52s, jazz and other things that make me hopeful about most of the ones I'm unfamiliar with.

"Gives it to us, it's our birthday."

The bad news: Someone made a claim already.

The good news: I'm pretty sure I have two. Send me e-mail (or something) tomorrow and we'll sort it all out.

YAY!!
Although, are you sure you don't want to wait a little while and see if someone can make you at least a slightly better offer?

If not, sweet. I would love to come get it. The only problem is that I seem to have injured my ankle at a wedding this weekend. I know I can find some help, but the arrangements will take a bit of time.

Comments? Questions? Thoughts?
