"Can I borrow you for a second?"
"Sure. For what?"
"I need you to wash your hands."

I only visited one bathroom at the Chambers Hotel and it is, by itself, worth a visit. (Anecdotally, the women's room has equal charms.) After taking the antiseptic second picture, below, a picture cried out to be taken with a human presence. I sought out [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha B, one of the co-guests of honor at his 10th Anniversary party.

I saw a similar sink arrangement in India. It was a simple glass panel sloped to the back where it emptied into a trough. It had the advantage of more-intuitive controls for turning on the water than those at the Chambers hotel.

I am assuming that the urinals and toilets flush themselves, too. We have those here at Blinn College. Ah, the wonders of higher education!

Have you seen this (http://www.cleanishappy.com)? Probably NSFW (which is why I'm not going to test the link here at the office).

It's a small bathroom: there's only one urinal (which flushes itself) and two johns in little rooms with doors. I didn't go in to check on them, but you're probably right. What made the place especially futuristically yuppie was the two flat screen tvs directly behind the sinks, going on about some commercial enterprise.

I think the design is brilliant. You need a basin to keep soapy water in, to soak socks or clean a baby. Neither of which tends to happen in the function space of an upscale hotel. You'll probably use more water if you need to shave, but modern facilities have sufficient hot water. It looks cool, the water doesn't splash, and people take pictures of your bathroom. Heh. I forwarded it to a friend of mine who is interested in the subject matter of the intro, and also installs plumbing fixtures.
