Perhaps I'm the only one, but I tend to come up with pronunciations of acronyms, whether they deserve one or not. CSI/CSI:Miami/CSI New York can all by verbalized quite nicely as promoted, "See Ess Eye Noo Eorc". Often (at least in my head), I verbalize "CSI" as one spoken word, "zhi", with a voiced sibilant, sort of like "shy" with an initial phoneme as in "Zsa Zsa".

No, it's not important.

One new show was on my radar for Tuesday, and the premier of several favorites overlapped and necessitated taping. Bones was pretty good and might even be getting better. The character interactions are getting deeper and more like people I know. Of course, I know lots of fans, who are intelligent and weird, usually in a good way.

House is losing it. They keep hitting one of my bugaboos: Unpleasant people doing unpleasant things. Everyone seems to be sinking to House's level, and it's painful to watch. Well, maybe they'll straighten things out in the next few episodes.

John Larroquette arrives at Boston Legal, and slips in nicely. The camera work was never one of the best things about the show, and the season opener was painful to watch at times. Still, worth watching.

Aside: I can't think of another actor besides William Shatner who has been the star of four successful tv shows. (Successful defined as "more than two seasons".) A remarkable career, still going strong.

The first episode of Cane was okay. Might try a few more shows just to see where the storylines go, but sprawling soap operas are not my thing. If I'm not home, it's Boston Legal.

Eureka, now well into its second season, hasn't worked up to being a favorite, but the show chugs along as well produced okay skiffy. Semi-believable technobabble, characters worth caring about, fair plots and a story arc that moves along.

I believe it should be pronounced "Cussy." But then I work for an ABC affiliate. And I can't believe that idiot Eisner let this series slip over to CBS. Grrr...

The only thing I'm preserving on my TiVo for eventual transfer to DVD this season will be Heroes and the remaining, sad, last episodes of Danny Phantom, my favorite Nickelodeon cartoon series that was just wound up. I'm almost tempted to record Cavemen for the only three episodes they will make, just to remember what a traffic accident it is.

I believe it should be pronounced "Cussy."

Without the vowel, perhaps. "k-sigh".

Heroes is too uneven for me to be excited as yet. In many respects, I'm sorry that I watched the show instead of waiting for the DVDs. Still, at least I get to get in on the buzz.

Never heard of Danny Phantom, will try to note it in passing. I still think Kim Possible is the cutest woman on tv, stolen for an insurance company...

Some acronyms look to me as if they need to be pronounced as single words whether they are or not; some don't. CSI isn't one, probably because it prominently features an unlikely succession of consonants. Yes, I had trouble pronouncing Larry Csonka, too.

I was spoiled by DC comics publishing the pronunciation guide to Mister Mxyzptlk (http://www.supermansupersite.com/mxyzptlk.html).

I'm still waiting for the program that SNL predicted a few years ago: "Law & Order: Enough Already."

Or The Simpsons: "Law & Order: Elevator Inspection Unit".
