[livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K made a time capsule when she was 9 (or so she remembered) and opened it at Minicon 43. Here we see what she buried: Chicago Tribune (?) from November 1969 announcing the Apollo 12 moon landing.

Moon Landing Apollo 12 headlines
Minnehaha K holds up newspaper: Apollo 12 Lands On The Moon
Minicon 43, March 21, 2008CE
headlines read
Dateline: The Moon
(caption of fuzzy picture) Conrad and Bean jubilant as they walk on the moon
'It's wild'
Happy moonmen set walk record
Only failure: TV conks out

I remember watching the Apollo 12 landing, and listening all night when the tv camera conked out after being pointed at the sun. They tried everything to fix the camera and nothing worked. Finally, they tried hitting it with a hammer. That didn't work either.

I think Bean is still kicking himself over that camera failure to this day.

Doesn't K also have another time capsule containing the portrait that was painted of her 25 years ago, which has since aged?

No, I've had my portrait painted twice, and the old one had the canvas scraped because it wasn't worth keeping. Geoff Stone took some marvelous pix of me, to my and B.'s delight.

Besides, you can't see my copious grey hair in that pic, for some reason.

K. [PS:, DavE: do you have more pictures from the time capsule opening?]

I have quite a few. You can either wait until I've edited them, or I can send you the raw jpgs. I have a few pics from the Green Room as well.

I'd love to see more pictures from Minicon, in part to see how many old friends I can recognize. The embarrassing thing would be that there would be some people I ought to recognize, but don't (due to flaws in my memory, no doubt).

I usually ask (by show of hands) at Opening Ceremonies. There are always a few people at their first Minicon, a few more who have been to five or fewer, etc. The largest group, this year, was "20 or more Minicons". Still, for a con of 400, I didn't know an awful lot of people.

I have a condo Board of Directors meeting tonight, and won't make the party. Yeah, I'm unemployed and busier than ever...

When's the next good time? Will you be in town for a few days? And remember my motto: I can be bribed.
