How many musical instruments can you identify in this picture?

Two voices. Two guitars. Bruce's dumbek (sp?). A bodhran (probably jbru's, I'll bet). A harmonica. And does the laptop in the back count? I'll bet it has a music program on it...

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bodhran (although I certainly don't know the correct name for it). Based on seating locations, it's probably [livejournal.com profile] mplscorwin playing one of his drums ([livejournal.com profile] jbru was seated several seats to [livejournal.com profile] lollardfish's left).

And the laptop was controlling the recording [livejournal.com profile] madtruk was making of the proceedings. So I'm not sure if that counts as a musical instrument or not...

Really good circle, but it would have been greatly enhanced by the addition of a good bass player...

Hmm... On closer examination, I do believe you're right, David -- it looks like someone might be tapping on the drumhead with fingers, which isn't how you play bodhran. I thought it was [livejournal.com profile] jbru just holding the bodhran, but your explanation makes more sense.

I would have loved to have brought a bass into the circle... :-)

There but for infinite amounts of cash go you?

Phoo-we'll never be in the same circle...one of those destiny things or perhaps an unknown law of physics where only one of us can be in any given place at one time.

Infinite amounts of cash would be nice -- then I could just pop up to Mpls. any time someone's having an interesting music party! But unfortunately the budget around here is tight enough to squeak whenever I open the checkbook... :-)

The BIG problem, though, is that I'm made of anti-musical matter and you're made of musical matter and if we ever try to occupy the same circle, we'll all go up in a big puff of light and heat.

Oh and it is Corwin and his dumbek. Or tabla. Your choice :).

That's [livejournal.com profile] galacticvoyeur playing dumbek (sp!).

Good list, though you're not counting all the guitar cases behind them, because they're probably empty.

Bruce can make his computer sing...

I always spelled it "doumbek," but I think that "dumbek" is an alternate spelling.

How precise do we need to be about the spelling of words from languages that use entirely different character sets?

There is no correct spelling of MinnSTF.

Precise enough that we English-speaking types know what you're talking about.

I've found, especially with musical instruments, that alternate "legitimate" spellings abound when the instrument comes from many different countries.
