I have a few days to decide, so I'll ask LJ Assembled: is it worth getting a Permanent Account.

Do you like the benefits?

Heck, at the moment I don't even have a Paid Account. A Perm is almost nine years of LJ, at current prices. Nine years ago I was on Usenet and just starting irc. Will LJ be around in nine years... or longer? Will they get rid of Free Accounts like mine, already grandfathered in? Will Lj be bought be someone who won't honor the Perm?

What do you get for your bucks? I don't care about userpics. Different styles don't do much for me. Being able to do polls is moderately tempting, and Friends of Friends listings are similarly tempting but still basically a toy.

I have hundreds of entries, and a lot of time invested. The pictures are all on my site, so I wouldn't lose any data, just all my apazines. But they're around, somewhere on the net.

So... sell me on a Permanent Account. Or convince me otherwise.

I like having a permanent account, but I'm not sure it would be worth it at the current price. I like not having ads, being able to post polls, and a few other things I'm sure I've forgotten (because for me, they're just the way LJ is).

If you plan on being on LJ for more than 7 more years, it makes sense to buy a permanent account.

I am neither stupid enough to assume that I will be doing the same things eight years hence, nor smart enough to know what I would be doing, so I pay for my account one year at a time.

I do think that it's worth the $25/year to have the ability to edit comments, make polls and avoid ads. But then, I REALLY hate ads.

Oh, and being able to easily communicate with you lot is well worth $25/yr.

Edited because I can, so there. :)

I forgot about editing comments. That would be a plus.

I don't get ads now, but my type of account doesn't exist anymore except as a legacy. I'm worried the legacy will fall by the wayside.

And aren't paid accounts $19.95 a year?

One of the things that keeps me hopeful is that there are a staggering amount of similar, free, social networks. If LJ were to get to uppity, FaceBook or MySpace would get the business.

I don't use any of the special features, but I decided (a couple rounds ago) that I was using LJ enough and seemed likely enough to keep doing so, that getting a permanent account made sense. I figured the price, both for the permananent account and the regular paid account, would only keep going up, so I might as well. I like never needing to think about it again.

Not terribly compelling, but them's my reasons.

Same here, even to the extent of being a couple rounds back.

I like never needing to think about it again.

Bingo. I had the money, I could spend it then, and now I don't have to worry about renewals or updating my credit card expiration dates or anything.

I got a permanent account because it pays for itself in time, and I like the convenience of not having to think about renewing every so often. The other features are just gravy.
