Scooter Libby: Worse Then Alger Hiss
Republicans are always soft on crime... when its theirs
Old political axiom from Harry Truman: When your opponent is self-destructing, try not to get in the way.
New political axiom for the sleaziest administration on record: Kick 'em when they're down before they wiggle out of it.
If the ramifications weren't so serious, the news of the last few months would be fun to talk about.
( Countering the GOP slime machine as best you can. )
George W. Bush just doesn't give a damn. He, and the idiot ideologues he surrounds himself with, are only in it for money and power. He doesn't care about -- isn't aware of -- the real problems facing the country. Anytime a real issue comes up, he just runs away, then lies about it.
With Judith Miller pretty much proving that journalism in any real sense is dead, it's up to us humorists to tell the real story, even if we have to do it from a rather odd perspective. The Onion has consistently skewered everyone and everything, and isn't about to take a threat lying down. A "real" story, from the CNN site: White House to Onion: Stop Using Seal. The Onion's response: Laura Bush: I Just Wish I Could Stop Shitting Blood. Was this a direct response to the bullying, uncaring Bush administration's un-American stomping on the First Amendment? I dunno, but more power to 'em.

- The non-response to Katrina.
- The generals in Iraq completely contradicting Donald Rumsfeld's statements to the press (and here). (You have to watch The Daily Show for any mention of how this contradicts statements made under oath.)
- 2000 US dead in Iraq, which doesn't count non-combat deaths (such as the 6,100 who died in or on route to German hospitals as of Jan. 1, 2005) or injured (17,000 US Troops wounded as of Nov. 10, 2004). And doesn't count other country's deaths, for all the talk of a "US-led coalition".
- Iraqi civilian deaths have been all but ignored, and finally the US military has said that 25,902 Iraqi security forces and civilians were killed by insurgents between Jan. 1, 2004 and Sept. 16, 2005; emphasis mine as this doesn't include the number of Iraqi civilians killed by the US.
- The failed Afghan War, where we fled like scared rabbits and left the fighting to... the French.
- The Deficit is obscene and the National Debt will never be paid off. The balance of trade has been tipped to China, a a major Bush family stomping ground.
- Plamegate: Scooter Libby, (potentially) Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and beyond.
- The most corrupt politician in Washington: Tom DeLay.
- Bill Frist: Incompetent physician, corrupt politician.
- Harriet Miers (not worthy of a link).
- Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, Chief of Staff for Colin Powell until last January, claims Dick Cheney hijacked US foreign policy.
- The Heartland Pervert file grows with the Republican Wife-Cheating Hall of Fame and a growing list of Republican Child Molesters and Arnold "The Gropenator" Schwartzenegger.
- Rampant cronyism is barely coming to light with old scandals swept under the table: Ken Lay's manipulation of energy prices in California and no-contract bids to Halliburton while Dick Cheney was getting nearly a million a year from his former company.
- W. hears bad news, goes on yet another vacation.
