Recount is complete: Franken up by 226 Mpls Star Tribune, 6:43pm 1/3/09:

Norm Coleman's term as a U.S. Senator ended at noon Washington time on Saturday, and by evening his hopes of winning a second term had been dealt an expected but serious setback as state officials counted previously rejected absentee ballots in St. Paul.

Democrat Al Franken held an unofficial lead of 226 votes over Coleman as this edition of the Star Tribune went to press, according to a newspaper tally of officials' count of the absentee ballots. Franken had led unofficially by 49 votes going into the day and gained a net 177 votes from the new ballots.

I doubt Norm or the goppies will stop at the actual ending of the ballot counts, but for now the election is over and we can seat our new senator next week. Congrats Al!

I don't like him, on the other hand I liked Coleman a lot less.

Sad part is the swing voters are mostly people too stupid to figure how to color inside the lines.........

I was just thinking of the contested ballots where the people voting found the idea of color in the circle next to the name to be too obscure to understand.

People circling the circle, outlining it, filling in one, crossing it out and filling in the other, people making arrows pointing to circles. How stupid does it get?

I do not claim to be the ultimate mental powerhouse, but there is no reason the voting process in Minnesota shouldn't be easy to understand by a reasonably bright eight year old. And anyone who is old enough to exercise the franchise responsibly should be able to fill in a circle...........

Thank you, I haven't voted in Minnesota for some years, so I didn't know what was involved in marking the absentee ballots.
