A while back, on Facebook, I got into a discussiion about sex crimes and disgusting viewpoints. I had been keeping tabs on pervs in the news since the spring, both Republican and Democratic mentions. Not particularly comprehensive, and several stories were mentioned more than once.
One of those "everybody does it" apologists for the Republican party chimed up saying one party was as bad as the other. Not so, I claimed, and Andre G. said,
.
Finally, here is said list, put into handy chart form, with redundancies cleaned up and slightly updated from our original conversation. These aren't in chronological order, but all are within the last six or eight months.
And to make the comparisons more visually striking, I added cites from the bottom of the table. This makes the comparison by party more dramatic.
I have yet to see the other guy's list, but at least mine is now out there.

When "sexual fundamentalism" conquered Capitol Hill
Salon.com interview with author of Delirium: How the Sexual Counterrevolution is Polarizing America:
In a political climate where women have to debate scientific inaccuracies stated by Republican politicians about "legitimate rape," where women who use birth control are maligned as "sluts," and where all-male congressional hearings are held to determine women's right to control their own bodies, "Delirium" is a welcome font of clarity. Although Cohen couldn't have anticipated the degree to which sexual rights would be the focus of the 2012 election, her book provides germane guidance for progressive activists who wish to secure four more years of a Democratic presidency.

A story that just kept growing. Scott DesJarlais, Pro-Life Republican Congressman And Doctor, Pressured Mistress Patient To Get Abortion
A pro-life, family-values congressman who worked as a doctor before winning election as a Tea Party-backed Republican had an affair with a patient and later pressured her to get an abortion, according to a phone call transcript obtained by The Huffington Post.
You might think that's bad enough. No, he had to double down:
Pro-Life Congressman Recorded Himself Convincing Mistress to Get an Abortion
For some insane reason, tea-party Representative Scott DesJarlais of Tennessee taped himself pressuring his mistress into getting an abortion back in 2000, the Huffington Post reports today. DesJarlais, now a pro-life Republican congressman, was a doctor at the time, and met the woman when she had a foot problem during a rocky time in his marriage. "You told me you'd have an abortion, and now we're getting too far along without one," DesJarlais tells the woman, according to a transcript of the recording obtained by HuffPo. "This is not fair to me. I don't want you in my life," the woman says. "Well, I didn't want to be in your life either, but you lied to me about something that caused us to be in this situation, and that's not my fault, that's yours," DesJarlais responds. The woman counters, "Well, it's [your] fault for sleeping with your patient."
But wait, there's more! 2nd Scott DesJarlais girlfriend talks
"His biggest thing that's completely unethical is him just picking up women while he's a doctor," the woman said in an interview last week. "I mean, seriously, that's his big no-no. ... He's just a hound."
Even other Republicans can see how bad this is:
Rep. Scott DesJarlais: doing the impossible
A prominent Tennessee conservative Tuesday called for Loop Favorite Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.) to resign.
The antiabortion physician had been in a bit of hot water when it was revealed he had pressured his patient and mistress to have an abortion. Even better, a second woman last week claimed she had an affair with him back in 2000 and told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that she also smoked pot with him.

Christian Group Finds Gay Agenda in an Anti-Bullying Day
But this year, the American Family Association, a conservative evangelical group, has called the project "a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in public schools" and is urging parents to keep their children home from school on Oct. 30, the day most of the schools plan to participate this year.
The charges, raised in an e-mail to supporters earlier this month, have caused a handful of schools to cancel this year's event and has caught organizers off guard.
"I was surprised that they completely lied about what Mix It Up Day is," said Maureen Costello, the director of the center's Teaching Tolerance project, which organizes the program. "It was a cynical, fear-mongering tactic."
Analysis from salon.com:
AFA spokesman's public humbling
Bryan Fischer, the gay-bashing, truth-challenged spokesman for the American Family Association, went one rant too far Tuesday for CNN anchor Carol Costello.

Rep. Mike Horner's name found among documents of alleged brothel-runner
State Rep. Mike Horner, R-Kissimmee, is being linked to a prostitution scandal that has already notched one arrest and could have broader political consequences.
Larger story and analysis: Florida GOPer resigns amid prostitution scandal
He resigned and said he is also ending his reelection campaign. Republicans have five days to name a replacement candidate. [Sept. 24]
Which they did, but it might be too late: GOP Picks Horner's Replacement
Under state law, Republican officials can name a replacement, but the ballots already have been printed and it may be too late to add La Rosa's name in the place of Horner's.

Not, strictly speaking, a scandal, but certainly an indication of how unhinged Rush and his dittoheads are:
Women's Movement causes men's penises to shrink -- Rush Limbaugh
"I think it's feminism. If it's tied to the last 50 years the average size of [a male's] member is 10 percent smaller than 50 years it has to be the feminazis, the chickification and everything else. Give 'em time and they'll blame Bush. But air pollution vs. feminazis? Ha!"

GOP accepts the Todd Akin definition of rape as part of their platform
Republicans drafting their party's official policy platform on Tuesday ratified a call for a Constitutional ban on abortion that makes no exceptions for rape or incest.
Partisan but accurate analysis on DailyKos
Of course it took them only a few minutes to officially adopt the position that is already the official position of the Republican Party. All in favor of continuing to take rights away from women? Probably a unanimous "aye" on that. What makes it awkward, of course, is that, as Jed Lewison explained, "There is no daylight at all between Todd Akin's position on abortion and the GOP's official position on abortion." So while Republicans are running around pretending they're offended by what Akin said, they just voted to support what Akin said.

Sex out of wedlock like rape similar to Republican candidate Smith
Mark Scolforo, Associated Press: How would you tell a daughter or a granddaughter who, God forbid, would be the victim of a rape, to keep the child against her own will? Do you have a way to explain that?
Smith: I lived something similar to that with my own family. She chose life, and I commend her for that. She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn't have to.. she chose they way I thought. No don't get me wrong, it wasn't rape.
Scolforo: Similar how?
Smith: Uh, having a baby out of wedlock.
The anti-abortion crowd is so radically absolute that they simply don't understand rape.

Other web sites with more extensive lists:
- Heartland Perverts 1 My own list, from 2009, on the top of the Bartcop-E page.
- Long list of Republican sex offenders.... from 2007 and going back quite a ways.
- In Sex Scandals, GOP Trumps Democrats An interesting analysis that ranks offenses. The list is from 2010, and starts off poorly, talking about then-current scandal involving Democrat Anthony Weiner: "Two things about the Weinergate make today's scandal a bit different than the majority of political fallouts: He's a Democrat and he's not resigning." The problem being, of course, that he did resign.
- Republican Offenders: A list of Republican felons and their indicted bretheren 1998-2012.
|
- Democrat Pedophiles and Sex Offenders Outnumber Repubs, many Dems re-elected. As an example of a right-wing attempt to make the same sort of list, this fails rather badly. This 2009 list is mostly people from the 1970s and 80s, with the most recent cite from 1995. Meanwhile, this site lumps in David Letterman and such with actual elected officials or partisan news commentators.
- Searching for "Democratic sex offenders" either gets you sites that don't actually mention Democrats or are old lists that are largely GOP talking points but not actual sex offenses.
