Constitutional Amendment proposal
May. 12th, 2006 07:47 pm(Sometimes the impulse moves me. I just sent this letter off to the Star Tribune.)
I've got the perfect piece of legislation for the Democratic platform. It would address a key civil rights issue and simultaneously steal two issues from the Republicans:
I propose a Constitutional Amendment to ban flag burning at gay marriages.

Date: 2006-05-13 01:07 pm (UTC)An impromptu wedding is a severe inconvenience for your guests, and the immediate nature of the ceremony is counter to "their commitment". Etiquette demands that a proper wedding has engraved invitations with plenty of time for an RSVP and the usual wrangling of the guest list. Licensing of marriages requires at least a visit to a cubbyhole at City Hall and perhaps a blood test.
Therefore, an impromptu wedding wouldn't be considered a legal marriage in the eyes of mannered society. If none of this stops the impetuous lovers, a proper host, to be safe, would require the flag to be done with it's conflagration before moving on to the nuptials. A true friend woudn't want the newlyweds to start their new life in jail.
