Harry and the Potters kind of snuck up on me. I like to keep track of the odd ranges of music, but there are a lot more of them in the computer age. [livejournal.com profile] pegkerr recommended their free Mpls Library sponsored concert on Monday. The weather was beautiful. Peg's family and friends were good company.

Most of the crowd, which I estimated at between 300-400, were kids, but they were all really into it. I didn't know any of the songs, but most of the attendees did. They were on their feet the whole time. They sang along and body surfed and "woo woo"ed with the best rock crowds. The music was good: Songs were tuneful and short with lyrics based on the books. Unlike traditional filk, the tunes were original; like modern dementia music the lyrics were aimed at a specific pop-culture audience. More fun than a Grateful Dead concert, and more drugs (ie sugar).

Here is a shot from behind the stage at Pershing Park during one particularly fan-friendly song.
