Harry and the Potters

Harry and the Potters kind of snuck up on me. I like to keep track of the odd ranges of music, but there are a lot more of them in the computer age. pegkerr recommended their free Mpls Library sponsored concert on Monday. The weather was beautiful. Peg's family and friends were good company.

Most of the crowd, which I estimated at between 300-400, were kids, but they were all really into it. I didn't know any of the songs, but most of the attendees did. They were on their feet the whole time. They sang along and body surfed and "woo woo"ed with the best rock crowds. The music was good: Songs were tuneful and short with lyrics based on the books. Unlike traditional filk, the tunes were original; like modern dementia music the lyrics were aimed at a specific pop-culture audience. More fun than a Grateful Dead concert, and more drugs (ie sugar).

I remember listening to a few tracks of theirs and being disappointed to find the music was really bad. :} Is it that laughably bad = good, or have they gotten a lot better?

We really couldn't hear very well (way off to the left of this picture), but the music seemed tuneful and what lyrics I could make out seemed okay. I don't think ZZ Top (or Luke Ski) has anything to worry about, musicwise, but I was expecting mediocre filk and got above-average tween songs. Peg has a staggering collection of the stuff, and I'm encouraging her to make a CD sampler with her faves.
